Certain farming practices cause environmental degradation including climate change, deforestation, irrigation problems, soil degradation, biodiversity loss and waste having a negative impact on the environment. Feeding an ever-increasing global population while decreasing environmental impact and maintaining natural resources for future generations is a major issue for agricultural sector.

Droughts, livestock diseases, international trade conflicts, and population movement from rural to urban regions have all exacerbated intractable difficulties across the country, necessitating further government aid. To solve this problem, the Government has proposed a number of incentives and schemes such as Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana to help develop organic clusters, ensure availability of chemical-free inputs to farmers and make India self sufficient in food grain production.   

New Farm Laws have been introduced to help farmers get better returns as these regulations allow the farmers to sell their produce outside the government-controlled marketing yards such as Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) regulated markets. 

To ensure the quality and health of seeds, seed testing laboratories have been set up in India under the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. Other initiatives include creating hubs for hi-tech farm equipment and financial assistance for farmers to buy machinery and support industry growth.
