To export goods from India, the exporter must possess an Import-Export Code (IEC).  The DGFT issues IECs as the company identification number for export or import purposes.  There are a few exceptions, though, and people who aren't involved in foreign trade policy or services related to it are exempt from registering with the DGFT in order to be granted an IEC. The license is given to a variety of entities, including LLPs (sole proprietor firms), partnership businesses, HUFs, trusts, and societies. In order to register with the IEC, you must

  1. Name of the Business unit for which IEC is required.
  2. Selection of the business type of the business
  3. Nature of the business.
  4. Details of the Activities to be carried out after authorization
  5. Incorporation details of the businesses
  6. Address details of the project in India

  10. Applicants need to upload the required documents in the required format.
  11. Make the payment of the application fee.
  12. Processing of the application
  13. The certificate will be issued if the authorization is completed.

The Indian government's authorized agency issues the RCMC certificate to exporters for the export of registered products or goods, which automatically verifies the exporters' identities. The applicant must include all pertinent information about the business sector it operates. As per the Foreign Trade Policy, the RCMC is required for the exporter to take advantage of the government's policies. The Customs and Excise Board regulation also mandates the use of the RCMC's services by the exporter. The procedural aspect of the same is handled by the councils or development authorities for export development and promotion. The license is valid for five years after registration and certification as the exporter, or as long as the authorities specify after the end of the fifth year. For the purpose of advancing and fostering India's export businesses, the RCMC has been added to the Export Promotion Council as an advisory council.
