The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has launched the MSE TEAM (Trade Enablement and Marketing) Initiative as part of the World Bank-supported Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Programme. This strategic move is designed to empower Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) by enabling them to fully leverage digital marketplaces and e-commerce platforms.
By integrating directly with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), the initiative will connect small businesses to a broader network of customers, expanding their market reach and increasing sales potential. The programme includes end-to-end assistance covering onboarding, digital cataloguing, account management, logistics, transport, and packaging. It also features an in-built training and capacity-building component to ensure sustainable digital adoption.

The platform offers marketing support, tender notifications, visibility enhancement tools, and trade leads. It is a critical tool for MSMEs seeking to expand internationally while building professional credibility.

The Procurement and Marketing Support (PMS) Scheme enhances MSME market access through participation in trade fairs, exhibitions, and buyer-seller meets. It also provides financial assistance for annual membership fees, subscription charges, and digital cataloguing for onboarding onto the MSME Global Mart, helping micro enterprises strengthen their online presence.
Role of Government e-Marketplace (GeM) in MSME Growth
The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) acts as a transparent, efficient, and centralised procurement portal for government departments and public sector enterprises. By offering features like e-bidding and reverse auctions, it ensures fair competition and timely procurement, creating new opportunities for MSMEs.
Empowering Women Entrepreneurs and Tier-2 & Tier-3 Cities
The MSME TEAM Initiative targets five lakh Micro and Small Enterprises, with 50% of beneficiaries being women-owned businesses. Special outreach is planned for Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, ensuring inclusive growth and equitable access to digital trade platforms.
Strengthening India’s MSME Ecosystem
By combining digital transformation, e-commerce integration, and marketing enablement, the MSME TEAM Initiative is poised to strengthen India’s MSME sector under the RAMP programme. This effort aligns with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision by providing small businesses with the tools, platforms, and market access necessary to compete in both domestic and global markets.
