How to Get FSSAI License

FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standard Authority of India; it has been established under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which consolidates various acts & orders that have hitherto handled food related issues in various Ministries and Departments.

Act aims to establish a single reference point for all matters relating to food safety and standards, by moving from multi-level, multi-departmental control to a single line of command. Act establishes an independent statutory Authority – the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India with head office at Delhi. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the State Food Safety Authorities shall enforce various provisions of the Act.

FSSAI has categorised license on business turnover basis in category:

  1. Basic registration
  2. State License
  3. Central license

Basic registration

State License

Central License

  • When Business Turnover is up to INR 12 lakh
  • When Business turnover is between INR 12 Lakh to INR 20 Crore
  • When business turnover is more than INR 20 crore

But there are some conditions under which Food business unit have to seek central license. These conditions are:

  • When food business is dealing in Import business related to food item

  • When food  business is dealing in Export business related to food item

  • When food business is dealing in selling of food products online

  • If your business is dealing in franchisees model then you have take central license for your head office and for branch on the basis of their turnover.

  • Food Catering Services in establishments and units under central government Agencies like defence etc.

  • Carrying on business of Storage, wholesaling, Retailing and Distribution under central government agencies.

  •  Food Catering services in establishments and units under central Government Agencies like air and airport, Seaport etc

  • Carring on business of Storage, wholesaling, Retailing and Distribution at seaport located at Kandla, Tuticorin, Vishakhapatanam, Kolkata, Marmagoa cochin, Mumbai, Chennai, JNPT Or Airport located Kolkata, Tiruchy, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Amritsar, Cochin, Bengaluru, Hydrabad, Trivendrum, Ahmedabad.

List of documentation changes according to license category:

For Basic registration documents required:

  • Photograph of Proprietor/ Partner/Director

  • ID proof Of Proprietor/ Partner/Director (PAN/Aadhar)

  • Address proof of business address (Electricity bill/ rent agreement etc)

For State/Central License documents required in the case of Manufacturing business;

  • ID & Address proof of Directors/Partners/Proprietor (Aadhar card/PAN card/ Passport)

  • Blue Print of manufacturing unit

  • Address proof of business/manufacturing unit (Electricity bill/ Rent agreement etc)

  • List of machinery along with no of capacity installed with horse consumption

  • IEC (in case manufacturer is willing to do business of import or export business)

  • Photograph of machinery installed, business unit (from inside and outside)

  • Water analysis report (if manufacturing involve water use)

  • Partnership deed/ Self declaration for Proprietorship/ MOA, AOA & COI of company

  • Turnover proof (Balance sheet) (if business crosses the prescribed turnover limit)

For State/ Central License documents required in case of other kind of business:

  • ID & Address proof of Directors/Partners/Proprietor (Aadhar card/PAN card/ Passport)

  • Address proof of business/manufacturing unit (Electricity bill/ Rent agreement etc)

  • Partnership deed/ Self declaration for Proprietorship/ MOA, AOA & COI of company

  • IEC (in case business is willing to do trading of import or export )

  • Turnover proof (Balance sheet) (if business crosses the prescribed turnover limit)

Few more documents are required as per kind of business:

  • NOC & copy of license from manufacturer (in case of relabellear and repacker)

  • Source of raw material for meat and meat processing plant (whenever applicable)

  • Certificate provided by the ministry of Tourism (HRACC) (Mandatory for Hotels only)

  • For  transporters-supporting documentary proof for turnover or self declaration of number of vehicles  (mandatory for transporter)

Any concern person can apply for the license simply by doing login on FSSAI site and upload the required and desired document as the need of form and make the payment for the license.

How to apply

STEP 1: Call to Corpseed
