India has been designated as the Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s leading trade fair for organic products, scheduled from 10 to 13 February 2026 in Nuremberg, Germany. The recognition places India at the centre of global attention in the rapidly growing organic food and agriculture market.

The honour shows India’s expanding role as a trusted supplier of organic products and its long-term commitment to sustainable agriculture. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is leading India’s participation with a large and high-impact presence at the event.

APEDA Strengthens India’s Global Organic Footprint

BIOFACH Germany is extensively known as the most significant international exhibition dedicated exclusively to organic food and farming. APEDA has maintained a consistent presence at the event for more than a decade, helping Indian organic products gain visibility among global buyers, retailers, and certification bodies.

India’s participation at BIOFACH 2026 marks a noteworthy scale-up compared to previous editions. This expansion reflects the rising demand for Indian organic products, increased exporter participation, and rising involvement of Farmer-Producer Organisations (FPOs). After a gap of 14 years, India’s organic farming sector is once again taking centre stage at BIOFACH.

India Country Pavilion Highlights Products and Regional Diversity

The India Country Pavilion, set up by APEDA, spans 1,074 square metres and features 67 co-exhibitors. These consist of organic exporters, FPOs, cooperatives, organic testing laboratories, state government bodies, and commodity boards.

The pavilion showcases an extensive range of organic products such as rice, spices, oilseeds, herbs, pulses, cashew, ginger, turmeric, large cardamom, cinnamon, mango puree, and essential oils. Participation from over 20 States and Union Territories highlights India’s agricultural diversity and region-specific strengths. States including Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand are presenting unique organic produce and value-added products.

GI-Tagged Rice and Food Tastings Draw Global Attention

In addition to product displays, visitors to the India Pavilion are experiencing curated food tastings. Live sampling of aromatic biryani prepared using premium organic basmati rice and spices is a key attraction. Five GI-tagged rice varieties, Indrayani, Navara, Gobindbhog, Red Rice, and Chak Hao, are also being served, highlighting India’s rich agricultural heritage.

APEDA has undertaken extensive branding and promotional activities across the Nuremberg Messe Exhibition Centre, reinforcing India’s Country of the Year status at BIOFACH 2026.

India’s recognition at BIOFACH 2026 highlights its leadership in organic agriculture. With diverse products, strong institutional support, and a focus on sustainability, India continues to strengthen its position in the global organic food market.
