India’s dairy sector has grown by 70% over the past 11 years, emerging as the fastest-growing dairy market in the world. Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, highlighted this achievement at the inauguration of Sabar Dairy’s new plant in Haryana. The number of milch animals increased from 86 million in 2014-15 to 112 million, while milk production rose from 146 million tonnes to 239 million tonnes. Per capita milk availability jumped from 124 grams to 471 grams, benefiting over eight crore farmers linked to the sector.

Sabar Dairy Plant: Boosting Production and Employment
The newly built Sabar Dairy plant, constructed at 325 crore, is India’s largest facility for curd, buttermilk, and yogurt. It has daily capacities of 150 metric tonnes of curd, three lakh litres of buttermilk, 10 lakh litres of yogurt, and 10 metric tonnes of sweets. The plant will serve Delhi NCR and northern states, while creating significant direct and indirect employment opportunities.
White Revolution 2.0 and Future Goals
Under White Revolution 2.0, the government aims to achieve milk procurement of 1,007 lakh kilograms per day by 2028-29. Every panchayat will have a cooperative samiti to strengthen the cooperative system and increase farmer incomes. The government focuses on modern dairy infrastructure nationwide to maintain India’s position as the world’s top milk producer.
