The commerce ministry has recommended action to guard India's domestic solar cell manufacturers. Its investigative arm, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), has proposed an anti-dumping duty on solar cell imports from China. The move comes at a time when cheap imports have started hurting local producers in the solar sector.

DGTR investigation has found that solar cells, whether gathered into modules or panels, are being exported to India at prices below normal cost. This practice, known as dumping, causes serious injury to domestic manufacturers and hampers industrial development in the renewable energy sector.
