India and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the energy sector under the Japan-India Clean Energy Partnership. A Ministerial-level India-Japan Energy Dialogue 2025 was held on 25th August through video conferencing. The meeting was co-chaired by Shri Manohar Lal, Hon’ble Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India, and Mr. Muto Yoji, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Government of Japan.
Both nations highlighted the importance of energy security, clean energy transition, and climate change mitigation, emphasizing their shared responsibility in building sustainable energy systems across the Indo-Pacific region.

Key Areas of Collaboration
During the discussions, the Ministries of Power (MoP), New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), and Coal presented progress reports from their respective Joint Working Groups (JWGs). They also shared future roadmaps to accelerate clean energy deployment.
The Ministers welcomed significant progress in:
- Energy efficiency initiatives
- Clean hydrogen and ammonia projects
- Scaling up renewable energy adoption
Both sides also agreed to expand cooperation in Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS), green chemicals, biofuels, and the adoption of advanced technologies in the energy sector.
Strengthening the Indo-Pacific Energy Framework
The dialogue reinforced that the India–Japan partnership is central to advancing secure, resilient, and sustainable energy systems. By working closely in hydrogen, renewables, and low-carbon solutions, the two nations aim to not only achieve their climate commitments but also ensure reliable and affordable energy access.
The Ministers reaffirmed that inclusive growth, environmental protection, and technology-driven innovation will remain at the heart of the cooperation. This collaboration is expected to set new benchmarks in clean energy transition and help both countries achieve their net-zero targets while contributing to global climate goals.
