Knowing about Webcam

A webcam is a subpart of the electronic gadgets family. It is also known by the name web camera. It is sort of a camera that captures digital video and photos. This camera can get connected to the computer system. To be able to connect one, the user needs to install the software on the system, thereby allowing the computer to record and stream the videos.

Nowadays, webcams come packed with the latest technology and are able to capture high-quality pictures and videos. This is why it makes them, quite a lucrative device for users.

BIS Registration: Webcam (Finished product)

Webcam is one of the products that fall under the Compulsory registration scheme which is enumerated under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). It is to be registered under the Indian Standard number as IS 616:2017.

This product must procure the BIS registration on a mandatory basis. All the manufacturers of the webcam (finished product), after obtaining registration would become eligible to be floated in the Indian market. Besides this, the associated import/export and other activities would be able to take place following the registration.

What are the product guidelines governing webcam (finished product)?

Given below are certain series guidelines for video cameras as notified under CRO Phase-V:

• In the first place, it is to be ensured that the enclosure material remains same with an exception in case of the differences that the decorative parts have.
• With respect to the PCB design layout, it must be ensured that it is maintained as same.
• Also, with respect to the input voltage and IP rating, it is to be ensured that it remains the same.
• In case of the registered batteries, the rating of the battery needs to be exactly the same.
• If applicable, there needs to be exactly the same output rating as equivalent to the input of webcam.
• In addition, pertaining to the mounting mechanism, it has to be exactly the same.

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology: Latest Notification

A notification was released by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, dated 1st October 2020. By virtue of such a notification, certain product categories were specified to be added in the schedule as given under “Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012”.

Out of the seven product categories, one of them is with respect to the wireless microphone, having the Indian Standard Number as IS 616:2017.

The product namely the “wireless microphone” is one such product that has been added in conformity to the power floating from clause 10 (1) (p) as provisioned under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986.

Apart from what has been mentioned above, different categories of products were added, including that of wireless microphone, which was in pursuance of clause (fa) of rule 13, as provisioned under Rule 13 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 1987.

The order came into effect on 1st April 2021. However, the date on which the order was sought to be implemented was set at 1st October 2021.

Conclusion

In the nutshell, it can be concluded that as notified by the above-mentioned notification, the webcam (finished product) is one of the product categories out of the seven specified ones.

The video camera has to strictly abide by the specific product guidelines which are deemed crucial in every way.
