Key Provisions of the Amendment

The BIS amendments introduce key amendments across numerous sectors. IS 14664: 2010 revises braking system standards for two and three wheeled vehicles to enhance safety. IS 14697: 2021 updates specifications for a.c. static transformer operated watthour meters to ensure more precise energy measurement. IS 15139: 2002 revises automotive vehicle safety belt anchorages, improving vehicle safety. Moreover, amendments to IS 5143: 2024, IS 7454: 2024, and IS 8086: 2024 expand the design and safety of rehabilitation equipment, including adjustable crutches and folding wheelchairs. These revisions aim to bring India’s standards in line with global practices.
