The Digital India BHASHINI Initiative is a government program designed to develop and organize advanced AI-powered language solutions in India’s digital ecosystem. Identifying the linguistic diversity of the nation, BHASHINI supports more than 20 Indian languages by offering tools such as machine translation, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and voice-enabled conversational AI.
The initiative focuses on making government services multilingual and reachable, promoting innovation through open source models, and boosting citizen participation through community-based data contributions. It aims to mitigate language barriers that delay digital access, mainly among rural, backward, and differently-abled populations.
