How long will it take to obtain a DGFT Restricted Import License?

There is no definitive answer; it depends on the document's completeness and the speed of the EFC approval process. The most complete and mistake-free application will move faster.

What documents are needed to get a DGFT import license for lighter components?

Some of the most important documents are IEC, PAN, GST registration, proforma invoice, product specification and declaration of end use of the goods.

Could the first-time DGFT importer apply for a DGFT Restricted Import License?

Yes. The first-time application may be subject to stricter review; therefore, documentation and end-use justification must be absolutely correct.

Your shipment could be detained or confiscated; you could face fines; and DGFT could suspend your IEC number.

No. Prohibited import applies only to completed pocket lighters and not to any other kind of lighters; below Rs. 20 CIF value.

Is it necessary to have a separate license for each importation?

No. One license permits the import of a specific quantity of goods for a certain period; exceeding this limit requires a new license.

What is the difference between "restricted" and "prohibited" under DGFT policy?

"Restricted" means import is allowed with prior authorisation. "Prohibited" means imports are generally not allowed, except for specific exceptions.

Why should I hire a DGFT consultant instead of applying myself?
