A CHIMS certificate is an official import authorization granted under the Chip Import Monitoring System. This system was introduced by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). It requires all incoming shipments of electronic chips, semiconductors, and related components to be registered before they arrive at Indian ports. This certificate is mandatory and must be obtained through online CHIMS registration.
CHIMS assists the government keep updated data on chip imports, track supply trends, and plan for domestic semiconductor development. Importers are required to obtain this certificate before submitting the Bill of Entry in the ICEGATE system. Although people often refer to it as CHIM or CHIM certification, the officially recognized term remains CHIMS certificate. The registration process is straightforward and fully online through the DGFT portal.
