Air pollution is the presence of harmful substances in the air that we breathe. They can be chemical, biological, or physical agents that pose adverse effects on human health and the environment. Common pollutants are:
- Particulate Matter (PM): Extremely small particles or droplets that exist in the air so small that they penetrate or intrude on the level of the respiratory system.
- Nitrogen Dioxide(NO2): A toxic gas from cars and industrial processes irritates your lungs
- Sulfur Dioxide (SO2): Given off by industrial plants and power plants, it causes acid rain.
- Carbon Monoxide (CO): These are the colorless, odorless gases released by burning fossil fuels
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): Organic chemicals that can evaporate in the air so they also contribute to air pollution. Includes paints, solvents, etc.
